Continuing Education for Yoga Teachers

Returning in 2024: 200-Hour Foundational Yoga Teacher Training

Starting in January 2024, we are delighted to again offer a 200-hour foundational yoga teacher training (aka 200YTT) at Carrboro Yoga! Your lead teacher is the inspiring Alexandra DeSiato—a professional educator who is herself a graduate of this program. Click over to our 200YTT page to read all about it.

Let’s Grow Together

Because training as a yoga teacher is a lifelong practice, we offer ongoing continuing education beyond our foundational 200-hour yoga teacher training. Anyone can join these continuing education workshops, regardless of background or teaching experience.

You’ll help your students best when you nurture your own practice and hone your teaching in exactly the places you need it. Our continuing workshops help with both. Each also offers Yoga Alliance continuing education credits, aka YACEPs.

Study with Sage Rountree

Our co-owner and director of our continuing education yoga teacher trainings is Sage Rountree, PhD, E-RYT. Sage is an expert on yoga pedagogy and has long specialized in teaching yoga to athletes. Basketball Hall-of-Fame Coach Roy Williams was her private student for over a decade, until his retirement.

In-Person Yoga Teacher Trainings (YTT) for Continuing Education Credits (CEUs)

These trainings welcome movement and yoga teachers from all backgrounds at every level of experience—including none. (Fundamentals of Teaching Mindfulness is especially accommodating, as it requires no practice cueing movement.)

Join us at Carrboro Yoga for these upcoming weekends with Sage Rountree:

  • Fundamentals of Teaching Mindfulness, February 17–18, 2024
  • Lead with Your Words: Perfecting Your Yoga Cues, March 16–17, 2024

These yoga teaching workshops are convenient to people in our geographical area:

  • Carrboro
  • Chapel Hill
  • Durham
  • Greensboro
  • Fayetteville
  • Raleigh
  • Southern Pines
  • Winston-Salem

To make travel easy, we meet all day on Saturdays and half days on Sundays. You’ll have pre- and post-meeting assignments to complete and share for feedback. Each weekend training offers 18 Yoga Alliance CEUs.

We want a world with a broad diversity of yoga teachers. Thus we offer need-blind reparatory and gratitude discounts for these trainings. We encourage BIPOC and Indian/Indian American teachers to join. If you self-identify as a member of these groups, please write us for a discount code to use at registration.

Teachers’ Intensive

Dive deep and learn how you can help your athletic students, as well as any population that is tight and tired, in Sage’s keystone teacher’s intensive.

Join us for Teaching Yoga to Athletes: A Five-Day Teachers’ Intensive, July 8–12, 2024. We meet 10 a.m–5 p.m. Monday through Friday of that week.

You’ll learn the philosophy, physiology, psychology, pedagogy, and profession of teaching yoga to athletes. And you’ll emerge excited to teach studio classes for tight and tired students, as well as to take yoga to team sports at every level.

We hold this workshop in the summer to accommodate traveling students—you’ll find both hotel and short-term rental rooms available in walking distance of the studio. We have had visitors from as far as Hong Kong and Sweden for this training!

Read Your Way to Better Teaching

Sage is author (and coauthor, with Carrboro Yoga Co. teacher Alexandra DeSiato) of several books on yoga practice and teaching. Reading these books will help you help your students better.
