About Carrboro Yoga Company

Carrboro Yoga has been serving the community since we opened at Carr Mill in 2004. Now we welcome you to the South Green development at the bottom of Greensboro Street. In the last twenty years, we have also had studios in Durham and Hillsborough under the umbrella of Carolina Yoga Company. On this side of Covid, we now host all our classes at our Carrboro space.

That’s at 101 Two Hills Drive, Unit 150, Carrboro, NC 271510. You can text us or leave a voice mail at 919-525-1008, or email us at info@carrboroyoga.com.

Our classes serve folks from all over central North Carolina. This includes Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Durham, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, and places farther afield.

Our goal is to offer a space for connection. This connection unites body, mind, and spirit. It unites the individual and the community. It unites mindfulness with action, thought, and feeling. This is yoga.

Our owners are two local women, Lies Sapp (left) and Sage Rountree (right). Look for them on the mat alongside you—and at our sister business, Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat!

And join Sage in Yoga for Athletic Balance, Yin Yoga, and Pilates classes across the week. She also leads our continuing education classes for yoga teachers.

About Our Staff

Alexis Besosa (alexis@carrboroyoga.com) is our concierge. She will be happy to answer any and all questions you have about how our offerings can help you. We offer an orientation call so you can learn how yoga will work for you—book it here.

Our teachers have over a century of combined experience teaching yoga.

About Yoga

Yoga is an ancient and evolving system. It uses physical poses, breath exercises, and meditative approaches to acheive connection. The ultimate end of yoga is liberation. Yoga shares roots with Hinduism, Buddhism, and other subcontinental Asian religions. Yoga’s branches have spread in many directions. The word yoga now encompasses devotional practices, physical exercises, and general mindfulness.

Practicing yoga will help you:

  • feel more relaxed
  • be stronger
  • find better comfort in your body
  • learn tools to cope with stress of any kind
  • be an all-around better person

We offer a spectrum of styles and practices to help you find balance in your life. Our classes range from the very gentle to the rather rigorous. Our student body varies in age from teenagers to people in their 90s.

It is our honor to guide you in this practice and to share yoga’s benefits together.

About Our Priorities

We welcome everyone, and we strive to be inclusive. This takes ongoing work. It requires us to recognize the inequities in yoga spaces. We strive to address these imbalances at an institutional level.

We need to get more Black, Indigenous, and Non-White people in front of yoga classrooms. Thus we offer a sizable discount on our yoga teacher training and our continuing education workshops for teachers.

Reparatory Discount for Black, Indigenous, and Non-White People

As part of our commitment to be actively antiracist, we offer a need-blind 25-percent reparatory discount on our YTT and on continuing education workshops for teachers to anyone who self-identifies as Black, Indigenous, or otherwise Non-White.

Gratitude Discount for Indians and Indian Americans

As part of our commitment to honor the people from whose cultural practice we draw profit, physical well-being, and spiritual growth, we offer a need-blind 25-percent gratitude discount on our YTT and on continuing education workshops for teachers to Indians and Indian Americans.

Our Work toward Institutional Change outside Yoga Spaces

We donate charity passes for fundraisers and silent auctions that focus on racial and social justice. If your nonprofit is in the social or racial justice field and you have an upcoming event, please be in touch!

How We Hire

When we hire, we like to start with people who are practicing with us presently. They understand the current studio culture and thus can help our students best. The right first step is to come in and get to know the space, the classes, the teachers, and the students we serve.

We look for seasoned teachers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We seek teachers with experience leading a range of classes to a heterogeneous set of students.

Check out studio co-owner Sage Rountree’s ninth book, The Professional Yoga Teacher’s HandbookIt explains what she values in a yoga teacher and how teachers should apply. And she is in charge of our hiring!
